The IDF Spokesperson's Office said Friday that IDF forces identified a Qassam launch from the Gaza Strip towards Israel. Forces returned mortar fire towards the launch site. In Shaar HaNegev Regional Council, where the rocket was aimed, the Color Red alarm was not sounded and no rocket landing has been reported yet. The IDF added that the strike was retaliation for earlier mortar fire towards Israel. On Thursday five mortar shells fired from Gaza fell in open spaces near the border fence. No injuries or damage were reported. The rocket launch sums up a week of unrest in the area. Early Friday morning the Air Force struck a smuggling tunnel in the southern Strip. The IDF stated that the tunnel, dug a kilometer and a half from the border fence, was intended to smuggle terrorists out of Gaza. The Palestinians reported no injuries in the strike.
