The Jewish Policy Center congratulates Mona Charen, syndicated columnist, best-selling author and JPC fellow, for receiving the 12th annual Eric Breindel Award for Excellence in Journalism. The annual prize was named after a former New York Post columnist and editorial-page editor. Ms. Charen is well known as “a forceful advocate for freedom… a passionate defender of a democratic Israel,” and as a believer in “America as a beacon of hope in a dark and dangerous world,” according to Rupert Murdoch.

The $20,000 award is given to the writer whose work reflects, “love of country and its democratic institutions, as well as the act of bearing witness to the evils of totalitarianism.”

Ms. Charen’s column is featured in more than 200 papers, including the Boston Globe, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and The Washington Times. She spent six years as a regular commentator on CNN’s “Capital Gang” and served as a judge of the Pulitzer Prizes. Ms. Charen is also the author of two best sellers: “Useful Idiots: How Liberals Got it Wrong in the Cold War and Still Blame America First (2003),” and “Do-Gooders: How Liberals Harm Those They Claim to Help — and the Rest of Us (2005).”
