Uranium Found in Syria

On Monday, U.N. investigators in Syria found traces of uranium at the site of an alleged nuclear facility, destroyed by Israel in a daring raid in September 2007. The investigators concluded that the findings require further explorations.

If further investigations confirm that uranium was used to build a nuclear reactor, this could have a negative impact on several Western nations’ efforts to bring Syria out of isolation. It could also dampen support for Israel-Syria peace talks.

Syria’s rogue activities should come as no surprise. We have noted here, here and here that Syria cannot be trusted. Indeed, only strong pressure coupled with sanctions will bring Damascus out of Iran’s terrorist orbit.
