In the past week, soldiers of the IAF's aerial defense network, using the new Iron Dome system, have shot down eight rockets fired from the Gaza Strip towards Israel. On Sunday (Apr. 9), the Defense Ministry released a video showing the successful interception of a Grad rocket near Ashkelon, first in real time and then in slow motion. Over the weekend, IAF Commander, Maj. Gen. Nechushtan visited the site of the Iron Dome battery deployed in the Ashkelon area and said to the soldiers there: "I am happy to have started out on the right foot with a number of successful interceptions and am sure that you understand the importance of what you are doing." Maj. Gen. Nechushtan added that the soldiers had "made world history."
