Rocket fired from Gaza into Israel: army

JERUSALEM — A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed in southern Israel on Tuesday, causing no damage or injuries, an Israeli police spokesman said.

"One rocket was fired earlier this morning from Gaza and landed in an open area in the Eshkol region," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP.

Overnight, Israel carried out several airstrikes in Gaza that the Israeli military said targeted an arms factory and three tunnels.

Sources from the Hamas movement said the strikes caused no injuries.

The military said the strikes came "in response to rockets fired against Israel in recent days."

So far this month at least nine rockets have been fired towards Israeli territory from the Palestinian enclave controlled by the Islamist Hamas movement, according to the Israeli army.
