Projectile Hits Ashdod Beach, CNN Reports PRC Has Long Range Projectile, PRC Denies CNN Report

Israeli sources said that a Palestinian home made projectile was fired onto the beach of Ashkelon in the south of Israel Friday afternoon.

No injuries or damages were reported, and no Palestinian factions have claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Palestinian Resistance Committees (PRC), however, revealed a new projectile that doubled the range of earlier weapons fired by other Palestinian factions. The projectile, also home made, was unveiled during a Friday field meeting held by officials of the Committees.

CNN News Network said that its crew was allowed to take pictures of the PRC military training site as well as the site where the new Naser 4 with a range of 25 kilometers is said to be manufactured. PRC reportedly told journalists that the new projectile can reach cities like Ashdod and Ashkelon.

Abu Al-Atayah, the spokesperson of PRC, told Ma'an, however, that "the Committees deny holding any meeting with the US News Network CNN." Moreover, he said, the group has never specified the range of its projectiles."

CNN quoted Ibrahim Dahman, one of the leaders of the PRC as saying "we have been under siege for two years. The only option left for the Israelis is to invade the Gaza Strip and to kill us." The American news agency also quoted the group as saying that the projectile was the "tip of the iceberg" in terms of the "surprises" that the group has in case Israeli forces are thinking about invading the Gaza Strip.

PRC has claimed responsibility for many projectile attacks on Israel, and also said that they participated in the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

In his statement to Ma'an, PRC leader of the higher council Abu Abeer affirmed that "we own long range projectiles but we do not have any relation with the home made shell that was fired on Ashkelon earlier today."
