The Hamas government on Monday shut down 200 shops selling cars and car parts in the Gaza Strip because they were unlicensed, the Transport Ministry said.
The ministry's motoring department cooperated with police and municipalities and police to close down 50 car dealerships and around 150 shops selling car parts, said department head Mohammad Abu Shaban.
Ismael Nakhaleh, of the committee for car importers, said the campaign to check licenses began six weeks ago.
He said the ministry instructed shop owners to register for licenses.
