Gaza police in Thursday detained two along the Gaza-Egypt border who were attempting to smuggle a highly addictive prescription drug.
Anti-Narcotics Police Chief Ahmad Abu al-Qidra said the two were found at Rafah in southern Gaza, with 9,700 Tramadol tablets.
Abu al-Qidra said his squad was "working day and night to eliminate drugs in the Gaza Strip."
Addiction to the synthetic opioid has been on the rise since 2007. In response, the Hamas Health Ministry made the drug available by prescription only.
