Crossings Continue to Operate Despite Rocket Fire

Despite rocket fire against Israel, Kerem Shalom, Karni, Nahal Oz and Erez crossings operated today enabling humanitarian movements and transfer of humanitarian goods in to Gaza. Throughout the day, a total of 149 trucks with 4577 tons of supplies at the request of UNRWA, the World Food Programme, UNICEF, USAID and other international organizations, including a donation from Jordan. Additional goods for the private sector including fruit, oil, hypochloride toiletries and sugar were also conveyed via Kerem Shalom. Also, 92,000 liters of heavy duty diesel for the Gaza power station were transferred via the Nahal Oz fuel depot. Karni conveyor belt operated and conveyed 3120 tons of different types of grain.
Since the beginning of the operation, 79,556 tons of humanitarian supplies have been transferred to the Gaza Strip. Also, 6,821,451 liters of fuel have been conveyed through Nahal Oz and Kerem Shalom. In the ongoing humanitarian effort, since the unilateral cease fire (18/1/2009), 39,981 tons of aid has been delivered to the Gaza Strip and 3,012,900 liters of fuel.
