U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has reportedly agreed to the demand of care-taker Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that any investigation by the world body of the devastation from the Jewish nation's 22-day Gaza offensive should include the damage caused by Hamas-fired rockets into Israel's south, media reports said.
Olmert said that any report must include the "damage caused during the operation and in the past eight years to the (Israeli) communities of the south as a result of the Qassam fire."
Ban told Olmert the report would be aimed at emphasizing rehabilitation efforts, while Olmert insisted that Hamas play no role in reconstruction.
"The rehabilitation efforts must be co-ordinated by the international organizations in conjunction with Egypt and the Palestinian Authority, and Hamas, which is responsible for the destruction of Gaza, must not derive any legitimacy from the rehabilitation process," Olmert said.
