A right-wing Danish political party has made Muslim immigration a main focus ahead of next week's legislative elections, as described in a new al-Jazeera article.
The Danish People's Party (DPP) says Muslims are not respecting Danish culture and are exploiting the Danish system. One campaign poster shows veiled women under the headline: "Follow the country's traditions and customs or leave."
According to one DPP official, "Danish values are under pressure."
Skaarup is reacting, in part, to the furious reaction by Muslim Danes after cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed appeared in the Jyllands-Posten newspaper.
