Responding to the assassination of terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, Hizbullah’s Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah, declared to Israel that Hizbullah would attack its interests abroad. “If you want this kind of open war,” he said. “Let the whole world listen: Let this war be open.”

Nasrallah vowed that “tens of thousands like Imad Mughniyeh” would attack Israel. (See al-Jazeera’s translated excerpts of Nasrallah’s speech)

While Israel has not taken credit for Mughniyeh’s death, the IDF has been widely credited for Tuesday’s car-bombing in Damascus. “Israel rejects the attempts of terror elements to attribute to Israel any involvement in this incident,” Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s office said.

Despite Israel’s denials, Hizbullah will almost certainly respond. Analysts are now speculating when and where Hizbullah might attack.
