The House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution (H Res. 185) Tuesday urging that Jewish refugees be part of any Middle East peace agreement, the Jerusalem Post reports.
While Palestinian demands for “right of return” for its refugees has long been a stumbling block in peace talks, the new resolution seeks to have the suffering of Jewish refugees taken into account, too. This was the first congressional recognition of this important issue.
Predictably, the Arab American Institute issued an alert saying the resolution “distracts attention” from other refugee issues.
