The Department of Justice announced Thursday that they arrested a man for allegedly raising funds for the terrorist group Hamas, Agence France Presse reports.

Akram Musa Abdallah, AKA Abu Saiaf, of Mesa, Arizona, was arrested Wednesday on charges of lying to authorities over his involvement in fundraising for the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, a Hamas charity shut down by authorities in 2001.

“Abdallah knowingly and willfully made a false material statement when he represented to FBI agents that he was not involved in fund raising activities for the Holy Land Foundation,” the US attorney said in a statement.

According to the indictment, Abdallah raised cash for the Holy Land Foundation in the Phoenix area from 1994 to 1997. If convicted, he faces up to 8 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.
