Hamas’ New Conspiracy Theory: Israeli Aphrodisiacs

Israel is supplying the Gaza Strip with chewing gum that boosts sex drive, a Hamas official said Tuesday. The gum might “destroy the Palestinians’ social infrastructure [and] hurt the young generation,” said the spokesman.

This paranoid delusion is especially preposterous considering that, for decades, Palestinians accused Israel of impeding the Arab birth rate. One 1980’s rumor alleged that Israel poisoned West Bank girls of childbearing age. Palestinians previously accused Israel of subjecting Palestinians to cancer-causing phosphorous searches.

Arab conspiracies about Israel are nothing new, notes scholar Daniel Pipes. In his book, “The Hidden Hand,” he documents how Arab leaders have accused Jerusalem of depleting of the ozone layer, causing malnutrition among Lebanese residents in West Africa, and inserting propaganda into Iraqi textbooks.
