San Fran to Ban Infant Circumcision

Reader comment on: San Fran to Ban Infant Circumcision?

Submitted by Barbara Pickell (United States), Feb 25, 2011 13:40

It would be better to focus on the fact that there are medical benefits to circumcision in men as opposed to the religious bases. The reason is that a religious basis opens the door to allowing Female Genital Mutiliaton (FGM).

Female genital mutilation is supported by a mix of cultural, religious and social factors within families and communities throughout the world. There are serious long term adverse health affects from FGM. On the other hand, male circumcision has generally been shown to be a healthier option than not having circumcision.
