Reader comment on: Thinking Outside of the Barrel

Submitted by Omar (United Kingdom), Jan 8, 2009 15:36

I have just watched Anne Korin who I found to be amazing , she is so right on so many things .

I think that the reduction in oil dependency could be tackled by technology , in 2011 the Swizz adventurer Betrand Piccard plans to fly round the world in a solar powered aircraft , in the mid 80s a solar powered aircraft carried a man across the English Channel , I am of the firm belief that solar powered aircraft could one day carry passingers, and that investment sould be made into developing this capabilty sooner rather than later .

I hear you say solar powered passenger planes thats not possible , yes current technology doesnt have the capability to produce solar powered passenger planes , but 20 years ago technology didnt have the ability to make the computer games your kids play on , or the mobile phone in your pocket , 70 years ago a lot of the things that are now taken for granted would have been impossible to achieve . In 1907 when the Rite Brothers made the impossible possible by making the first powered flight they probably never imagined what that would lead to .
