I can't help, but wonder if early American fighters gave British opponents fair trials during the War for Independence & whether such acts would influence subsequent governments. What has made America democratic? Was ending slavery a part of that or was that a later romanticizing? I personally think that MEDIA in America set the moral standard of democracy & Arab countries LACK such a model.
