US Soldiers disarmed

Reader comment on: Dishonorably Disarmed: Marines Insulted by Sec. Panetta

Submitted by Mike Seidel (United States), Mar 16, 2012 10:55

During the Viet Nam war, I was a draftee, at Fort Sam Houston Brooke Army Medical Center, when another generally despised, very high government official, President Lyndon Johnson was flown in by chopper, for some medical treatment. At least 300 of us soldiers were called out and given M-14 rifles, and positioned to encircle the entire Parade Ground where the President would be landing. This, of course, was to protect the President. None of us were given ammunition or even empty magazines for our M-14's. they realized, at the last minute, he was so hated by the soldiers, that someone would take a shot at him. It appears our current Administration fears our professional soldiers as much as the murderous Johnson & Nixon feared us conscripts. Hope and Change.
