Appeasement all over again

Reader comment on: What if They Mean What they Say?

Submitted by June (United States), Mar 5, 2013 11:49

I cannot help but think of Winston Churchill and his assessment of the situation before World War II. He said that nations were feeding the crocodile in the hope that it would eat them last. What we are witnessing is the same thing but on steroids, because the stakes are so much higher. A nuclear world cannot afford to take this foolhardy approach and survive. Diplomacy can only get us so far; after that it starts to look a lot like weakness. What the civilized world thinks of as unthinkable, is often the end game of madmen. How do we get our leaders to take their heads out of the sand and confront the stark reality of the situation?
