Hamas arrested the Fatah-allied Palestinian Chief Prosecutor when he returned to Gaza to prevent his firing by Hamas, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Hamas assaulted Ahmed Mughami and a bodyguard, saying Mughami had “smuggled very important and dangerous information,” and had broken the law. A human rights activist filming the incident was arrested.
Mughami is the second high-ranked official arrested since Hamas took over Gaza. Last month Hamas arrested the director of Gaza’s electricity company, who has been held ever since. Earlier this week, Hamas also arrested the manager of a bank.
These unlawful arrests are consistent with Hamas’ Taliban tactics in Gaza, as I documented yesterday in National Review Online.
