The Boys of Pointe du Hoc

Eighty years ago today, the Allies invaded Normandy, beginning the march to Berlin, victory in World War II, the defeat of Nazi Germany’s military machine and pernicious ideology, and the liberation of the people of Europe – and the remnant of European Jewry.

Forty years ago today, President Ronald Reagan stood on that spot and gave this speech.

The language of democratic hopes and aspirations, the language of respect for bravery and faith, and the unshakable belief in the need for vigilance, defense, and the willingness to go to war to protect the values of a free society from the wicked resonate in the middle of today’s wars.

With all respect to the memory of Boys of Pointe du Hoc and to today’s brave soldiers who carry the banner of freedom, liberty, democracy, and security.
